IKAR is not rushing to revise Russia’s wheat export forecast, awaiting greater clarity
The Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) is maintaining its 46 mln ton forecast for Russian wheat exports in the 2026/27 marketing year despite disruptions to shipping in the Sea of Azov. According to the institute, it is too early to revise the estimate until there is a clearer understanding of how long the restrictions will last and what impact they will have on logistics.
“We are not changing anything for now because we need to assess the situation and understand how long it will last,” said IKAR Director General Dmitry Rylko.
Reuters previously reported that Russia had temporarily restricted vessel traffic through the Azov-Don Sea Canal and the Kerch Strait following drone attacks. Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture stated that the situation in the Sea of Azov would not affect the country’s export potential or domestic food supply.
