How the area under major crops in Ukraine changed in 2024

There were some changes in the structure of sown areas in 2024 compared to 2023. In particular, the area under soybeans increased by 44%. At the same time, the list of the five most popular crops among Ukrainian farmers remained unchanged.
This is reported by AgroTimes with reference to the State Statistics Service.
The list of the most common field crops in 2024 looks like this:
- Sunflower – 4.947 mln ha (5.3% less than in 2023);
- Wheat (winter and spring) – 4.902 mln ha (4.9% more than last year, with winter wheat areas increasing and spring areas decreasing);
- Corn – 4.049 mln ha (1.5% less than last year);
- Soybeans – 2.655 mln ha (44.2% more than last year);
- Barley (winter and spring) – 1.412 mln ha (down 5.7% year-on-year).
Rapeseed is another crop with the area under it exceeding 1 mln hectares in Ukraine. In particular, winter rapeseed covered 1.229 mln ha this year, while spring rapeseed covered only 36.4 thou ha.
