Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!

Blue and yellow are colors recognized around the world today. Blue represents our peaceful sky and the sea across which Ukrainian grain has traveled to every corner of the globe for decades. Yellow represents endless fields of wheat, sunflower and rapeseed, the work of Ukrainian farmers and the harvest that feeds millions of people worldwide.

Today, Ukraine continues to fight for the ability to work its land and freely access its sea. Russia attacks ports and commercial vessels, attempts to block maritime routes and disrupt Ukrainian exports. The war has turned things that once seemed routine for farmers — planting, harvesting, operating grain elevators or sending a vessel loaded with grain — into a daily struggle.

Yet Ukrainian grain continues to find its way to the world. No matter how difficult the circumstances, farmers keep planting and harvesting, processors keep operating, railways and border crossings seek new routes, and ports will eventually return to normal operations. Today, every ton of Ukrainian agricultural products represents far more than economic value. It is proof that the country is alive, working and refusing to let anyone take away its future.

Independence is not only about borders on a map. It is about being able to work our own land, grow crops, build businesses and determine the future of our own country. Every field planted today is a sign of confidence that Ukraine has that future.

May the blue of our flag once again stand above all for peaceful skies and a free sea, and the yellow for fields where the next harvest depends on the weather and the work of farmers — not on war. Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! 🇺🇦
