Grain harvest estimated at about 10.3m tonnes in Belarus
According to preliminary estimates, the grain harvest made up at least 10.3 million tonnes in Belarus this year, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.
“According to the recent updates, in 2020 agricultural companies and farms threshed 9.4 million tonnes of grain in wet weight, up 19% or 1.5 million tonnes year-on-year,” the press service said.
All the regions harvested more than one million tonnes. Minsk Oblast threshed 2.4 million tonnes, while Mogilev Oblast posted the biggest increase (up 44% year-on-year). The average yield was 39.4 centners per hectare (an increase of 4.8 centners per hectare). Grodno Oblast traditionally boasts the highest yield of grain and leguminous crops (49.6 centners per hectare). In this regard Grodno District peformed better than any other district of Grodno Oblast (78.5 centners per hectare).
A total of 831,100 tonnes of rapeseed was harvested (up 21% year-on-year) with the average yield of 23.9 centners per hectare (up 3.5 centners per hectare year-on-year). “Together with rapeseed, the aggregate amount of grain by all producers will make up at least 10.3 million tonnes in wet weight,” the press service noted.
Winter grain crops were sown on the area of 1.453 million hectares (up 3% year-on-year), winter cruciferous crops – on the area of 395,400 hectares (down 2% year-on-year).
