Grain from Ukraine: A batch of wheat arrived in Sudan
A batch of wheat transferred by Ukraine as part of the UN World Food Program operation has arrived in Sudan. This was reported by the UN World Food Program.
The wheat shipment has arrived at the port of Sudan and is being loaded onto UN trucks for emergency food distribution. This food aid will be the main part of food rations for 1 million conflict-affected people in Sudan.
The delivery is part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative made possible by the German Federal Foreign Office, which covered the operational costs of EUR 15 million. The amount includes the cost of transporting the wheat from Ukraine to Sudan, as well as selling and distributing it in the country.
“The humanitarian situation in Sudan is catastrophic, but we must act now to prevent it from spiraling out of control. WFP is working to get food aid to families in need as quickly as possible,” said WFP Regional Director for Sudan Eddie Rowe.
