Global rapeseed market expects increased supply from the EU
Record winter rapeseed sowings and sufficient soil moisture in most key countries in the region create the prerequisites for increasing oilseed production in the EU in the MY 2026/27 to 20.97 million tonnes, which is 0.4 million tonnes higher than the previous season and is a new maximum.
According to experts, oilseed stocks in the EU will exceed last year’s level by 1 million tonnes and reach 1.33 million tonnes, which will further increase the supply volume at the start of the next season-2026/27.
However, the positive balance contrasts with the increasing risks of a reduction in global exports, which partly explains the increase in prices for the new crop. In addition, European importers may face tough competition from Chinese buyers and Canadian processors in the 2026/27 season.
Experts also note an increase in the area under the crop in the main global oilseed producer – Canada, but the harvest is estimated to decrease to 21.4 million tons (minus 1.8% to 21.8 million tons in 2025/26 MY). Domestic processing: will increase by 1-1.2 million tons (an increase of approximately 9-11% from the average annual volumes) due to demand for biodiesel in the USA.
In Australia, weather factors may completely offset the expansion of crops, which will cause stagnation of production. The harvest is expected to be 17.6 million tons (a decrease of at least 1% compared to 7.68 million tons in 2025/26 MY).
