Global almond production to reach highest level since 2020/21
Global almond production is expected to increase next season, primarily due to increased production in the United States, the European Union, and Australia, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The latest semiannual report, “Nuts: World Markets and Trade,” forecasts global almond production to increase nearly 10 percent to 1.8 million metric tons (inshell), the highest since 2020-2021.
The United States, the world’s largest almond producer, is projected to harvest approximately 1.4 million tons, an increase of 122,000 tons.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, favorable spring temperatures and rainfall supported crop development, leading to a 13 percent increase in production.
Global Almond Production: EU and Australia
The European Union and Australia also contribute significantly to global production.
Global almond exports are forecast to reach 1.1 million tonnes, driven by moderate trade growth from the US and Australia.
EU imports are forecast to increase by 10,000 tonnes to 275,000 tonnes, while Indian imports are expected to rise to 180,000 tonnes.
The report notes that market growth will be partially offset by a nearly 25% decline in Chinese imports to 100,000 tonnes due to reduced shipments from the US.
