Germany increases soybean and pea acreage in 2026
In Germany, further expansion of legume crops is expected. According to the forecast of the Federal Statistical Office of the country, the area under soybeans will increase to about 51 thousand hectares in 2026, which is 17.8% more than in the previous year. Pea crops will also increase, and may reach 147.4 thousand hectares, which is 14% more than last year.
The German Union for the Promotion of Oilseed and Protein Crops (UFOP) positively assesses the trend towards expanding the area under legumes and diversifying crop rotations. At the same time, the industry is concerned about the possible consequences of new regulatory initiatives of the European Union regarding the classification of soybeans as a raw material with a high risk of land use change.
UFOP representatives called on the German government and members of the European Parliament to review the relevant draft regulation of the European Commission, believing that its adoption could negatively affect the development of soybean production in EU countries.
