GDT dairy price index rises 1.2%
The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) dairy price index rose 1.2% at the October 6 auction, recovering after a decline at the previous session. The weighted average price for dairy products reached $3,928/t.
Skim milk powder posted the strongest gain, rising 4.3% to $3,847/t. Whole milk powder increased 1.2% to $3,605/t, while buttermilk powder rose 0.7% to $4,123/t.
Most other dairy products declined. Lactose recorded the steepest drop, falling 6.9% to $1,677/t. Mozzarella lost 3.9% to $3,833/t, while cheddar declined 3.7% to $3,925/t.
Anhydrous milk fat fell 1.1% to $5,683/t, while butter slipped 0.3% to $4,740/t. Overall, the rise in the GDT index was driven mainly by stronger prices for milk powders.
A total of 41.7 thsd tons of dairy products were sold, with 165 participants taking part in the auction. The next Global Dairy Trade event is scheduled for October 20.
