French corn stocks at the end of 2026/27 may fall to 1.46 mln tons, down 26% from the previous season. According to FranceAgriMer, this would be the lowest level since at least 1996/97.

The main reason for the decline is a weak corn crop following severe heat and drought during the summer. FranceAgriMer estimates that French corn production this season could be the lowest since the 1970s.

Amid tighter supply, FranceAgriMer also expects a significant decline in domestic corn use. In particular, feed use could fall by 30% compared with the previous season.

Despite the expected drop in feed demand, this would not be enough to prevent a sharp decline in ending stocks. As a result, France’s corn balance is expected to remain tight in 2026/27.

The current FranceAgriMer forecast is its first corn balance for the 2026/27 season and already reflects the impact of adverse weather on production and domestic supply.
