France. Sugar beet production will increase by almost 8%
The Agreste agency, which is subordinated to the French Ministry of Agriculture, expects sugar beet production in the country in 2024 to reach 34.18 million tons, which is 7.8% more than in 2023 and 5.7% higher than the five-year average.
“The beet harvest is just beginning: if yields are confirmed at the high five-year level, production could increase to 34.2 million tons,” says Agreste’s updated production report.
This year’s sugar beet yield is estimated at 83.2 tons per hectare, which is almost the same as in 2023. The sugar beet area in 2024 is estimated at 411 thou hectares compared to 381 thou hectares in 2023.
In its previous estimate, published in September, Agreste estimated sugar beet production in France at 34.38 million tons.
