France lowered its estimate for winter wheat acreage
According to forecasts from the French Ministry of Agriculture, the area sown to soft wheat, the country’s main grain crop, will reach 4.61 million hectares this year, up 2.6% from last year and in line with the five-year average.
The winter wheat area estimate was reduced to 4.58 million hectares, below the February estimate (4.59 million hectares) and 0.4% below the five-year average.
The winter barley sown area estimate remained unchanged at 1.26 million hectares, up 5.9% from the previous year. However, spring barley sown, which was completed in March, fell to 501,000 hectares, down 16% from last year.
The French Ministry of Agriculture forecasts that the area devoted to rapeseed, the country’s main oilseed crop, will increase to 1.38 million hectares, a 9% increase from the previous year. Rapeseed prices are currently more attractive to farmers than those for grain crops.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv.
