First “green” ammonia plant has started operating in Denmark
The world’s first dynamic green ammonia plant was launched in Denmark on December 20, 2025, Skovgaard Energy announced on LinkedIn. The plant was launched in partnership with Topsoe, Skovgaard Energy, Vestas and EUDP – Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram. The plant was built near the town of Ramme, North-West Jutland.
“As the first of its kind, the plant demonstrates a dynamic approach, i.e. it adapts to the natural fluctuations of renewable energy production in conjunction with electrolysis and ammonia synthesis. This ensures optimal production and increases the cost-effectiveness of green ammonia,” the company said in a statement.
The dynamic approach allows for optimized operations and reduces the need for expensive solutions for storing green hydrogen or renewable energy.
The plant’s declared capacity is 5,000 tons of green ammonia per year. Six wind turbines and a 50 MW solar power plant provide energy, which is converted into liquid “green” ammonia.
