Exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU decreased by €1.57 bln in monetary equivalent
As of October 1, 2025, Ukraine exported agricultural products worth 15 billion euros – 1.57 billion euros less than in the same period last year. 90% of the reduction in Ukrainian exports in the first nine months is related to the European market.
This was reported on his Facebook page by the Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka.
According to him, the reduction in export rates is influenced by the lack of predictability and stability in trade with the EU, which is associated with changes in the trading system, which will be resolved with the entry into force of the updated Association Agreement on October 29. At the same time, 3 EU member states maintain bans on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.
“High insurance costs and a shortage of containers and refrigerators reaching the ports of Greater Odessa continue to limit Ukraine’s ability to return to its traditional export markets. Nevertheless, Ukraine exported 44 million tons through Odessa ports. 90% of agricultural exports are carried out through seaports,” Taras Kachka noted.
According to him, production problems also affected the reduction in exports. Especially in the frontline areas, where Russia is literally killing farmers in the fields.
“Despite all the challenges, Ukraine expects almost 79 million tons of grain and oilseeds, of which 49 million tons are available for export (17.5 million tons of wheat and 23.5 million tons of corn),” Taras Kachka emphasized.
The government official emphasized that Ukraine is a buyer of European products — dairy products, wine, high-quality processed food products and resources, such as seeds, machinery, chemicals, etc. As of October 2025, Ukraine imported €3.1 billion in agricultural inputs and fuel from the EU, as well as €2.9 billion in agri-food products.
“Trade statistics prove that Ukrainian agri-exports are the feed base for EU livestock farming, the EU is the technological base for Ukrainian agriculture – fuel, chicken eggs, plant protection products. We are interdependent. Every chicken born in Ukraine has EU DNA, mostly German and Polish.
By adhering to EU production standards and negotiating accession, we can achieve European strategic autonomy in food, protein and agro-energy products.
We can strengthen plant-protein security, expand the use of renewable energy sources related to agriculture, such as biofuels and biomass, and increase energy efficiency throughout the food supply chain.
It’s not just about grains. It’s about jointly increasing resilience, innovation, and sovereignty,” Taras Kachka emphasized.
