European oat market remains steady despite gains in US futures
The European oat market remained stable despite modest gains in CBOT oat futures, as ample grain supplies and subdued feed demand continued to keep physical prices largely unchanged. While weather concerns in North America supported futures, they have so far had little impact on cash markets across Europe.
In Germany, feed oat prices on an EXW Drentwede basis have held at around EUR 179/t for several weeks. Market participants say supplies from both old and new crops are sufficient, while feed manufacturers are purchasing mainly to meet short-term requirements rather than building stocks.
Adequate availability has also helped maintain market stability. Although EU oat imports in the 2025/26 season remain above the previous year’s level, comfortable inventories have allowed buyers to avoid aggressive purchasing despite the recent uptick in global futures.
Traders expect the European oat market to remain range-bound in the coming weeks. Attention is focused on weather conditions across the Canadian Prairies and the northern United States, where hotter and drier conditions could affect the new crop. For now, however, market fundamentals continue to point to balanced supply and demand, limiting the potential for significant price moves.
