European Commission may penalize Poland for blocking border with Ukraine
The European Commission may launch a procedure against Poland if the country’s authorities fail to settle the issue of Polish carriers blocking checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. Negotiations are currently under way.
This is reported by RMF FM.
The European Commission emphasized that the Polish authorities, according to the EU legislation, are obliged to ensure the free movement of Ukrainian trucks at border crossings.
Some in the EC believe that the Polish authorities are not doing everything to settle this problem and stop the protest of Polish hauliers.
Officially, the European Commission does not want to comment on the measures it may take against the Polish authorities, as it assures that negotiations with Poland and Ukraine are ongoing.
“The European Commission is still in contact with the authorities of both countries, we cannot comment on potential measures as discussions are ongoing,” a European Commission spokesman told RMF FM.
