The European Commission approved or renewed authorizations for seven genetically modified crops in June and September 2026, covering four soybean events and three corn events. They can be used in the EU for food and animal feed following favorable assessments by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

The list includes soybean MON 94637, GMB151 × DAS-44406-6 and MON 94313, as well as corn DP202216 × NK603 × DAS-40278-9. The Commission also renewed authorizations for corn NK603 × T25 and MON 87460 and soybean MON 87705.

The decisions apply to imports and processing of these crops but do not authorize their cultivation in the EU. The authorizations are valid for 10 years, while products must comply with EU labeling and traceability requirements.

The decisions were adopted after EU member states failed to reach a qualified majority either for or against the authorizations. During the votes, member states cited public opposition to GM crops, the precautionary principle, scientific concerns and political considerations.

The expansion of the list of authorized GM crops is particularly important for the European feed sector, which relies heavily on imported soybeans and corn. The new and renewed approvals broaden the range of shipments that can enter the EU market for processing and use in animal feed.
