European Commission agrees to ban imports of sunflower oil from Ukraine
The European Commission has agreed to ban the import of sunflower oil from Ukraine, but the transit of this product will be allowed.
This is reported by RMF FM.
“We will not abandon our actions at this stage, which we have taken, if we do not receive the appropriate tools to ensure that the Polish farmer will be safe when it comes to issues related to trade, the flow of goods from Ukraine to Poland,” said Agriculture Minister Robert Telus.
Earlier, the European Commission agreed to ban imports of products such as wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds.
Poland also wants to ban imports from Ukraine of flour, honey, sugar, soft fruits (frozen), eggs, meat (especially poultry), milk and dairy products, as well as apple juice and apple concentrate.
The European Commission has offered €100 million in support for farmers, of which Polish farmers will receive almost €40 million. Farmers can also receive another 80 million euros from the Polish state budget.
On April 16, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger announced that the country would temporarily ban grain imports from Ukraine. Recently, the Polish government banned imports of agricultural products from Ukraine to protect the Polish agricultural market. Hungary has also temporarily banned imports of grains, oilseeds, and some other agricultural products from Ukraine. This is because cheaper Ukrainian products will reduce demand for similar products from neighboring countries. Ukraine transits its grain through its neighbors, as the war waged by Russia prevents exports by sea.
Further development of the Black Sea and global grain and oilseeds markets will be discussed by UkrAgroConsult analysts and leading agribusiness operators at the EURO GRAIN HUB Exchange & Forum on April 26-28 in Bucharest, Romania. Join the key stakeholders from the Black Sea region, Central & Eastern Europe and Balkans, contributing to the global commodity supply chain.
