Euronext plans to launch wheat and corn contracts for delivery to Constanta

European exchange Euronext plans to launch dedicated wheat and corn contracts for delivery to the Romanian port of Constanta starting in June 2027. The new instruments are expected to provide market participants with a separate exchange price benchmark for grain delivered to the port.

The plans were announced by Romanian grain market expert Cezar Gheorghe, who referred to an internal Euronext email. The official presentation of the initiative is scheduled for 5 November 2026 in Rotterdam during the European Commodities Exchange, an event dedicated to the European grain trade.

The new contracts are expected to reflect prices for wheat and corn delivered directly to the port of Constanta. The existing Euronext wheat contract currently provides for delivery to designated silos in France, meaning the new delivery basis could offer a more relevant price benchmark for participants in the Black Sea grain market.

The introduction of these quotations could be significant for Ukraine, as Ukrainian and Romanian exporters compete for international buyers of wheat and corn. The new contracts could also potentially be used for hedging, helping market participants protect themselves against adverse price fluctuations.

However, the practical value of the new instruments will depend on trading activity and liquidity. The corn contract could be the most promising for the Ukrainian market, as Constanta-based quotations would better reflect conditions in the Black Sea region. The full potential of the new instruments will become clearer once their specifications and trading terms are published.
