EU supports Egypt in expanding domestic wheat production

The European Union has announced its support for Egypt in developing local wheat production and strengthening the country’s food security. The statement was made by EU Ambassador to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst during an event dedicated to the launch of mechanized wheat harvesting in the city of Damanhour.

The event was held as part of the EU-funded CAFY program and included the official handover of modern agricultural machinery to Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. The initiative aims to improve the efficiency of the agricultural sector and reduce the country’s vulnerability to fluctuations in global grain markets.

According to Angelina Eichhorst, the European Union and Egypt are working together to build a more productive, sustainable, and modern agricultural system. Special attention is being given to innovation, mechanization of farming operations, and support for local farmers.

The event was attended by representatives of the European Union, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture, as well as small and medium-sized farmers. Organizers emphasized that local producers play a key role in maintaining the country’s food security and agricultural stability.

Egypt remains one of the world’s largest wheat importers, making the development of domestic production a strategic priority for the government. EU support is expected to help the country increase crop yields, modernize agricultural infrastructure, and better withstand global economic and food-related challenges.
