EU reduced the purchase of vegetable oil by a quarter this season
During the period from July 2022 to the beginning of May 2023, EU countries imported more than 6 million tons of vegetable oil, which is more than 25% lower than during the same period of the previous season.
According to data of monitoring of European Commission specialists, during the accounting period 3.7 million tons of palm oil (-28% for the year), 1.8 million tons of sunflower oil (-17%), 366 thousand tons of rape oil (-55%) and 445.5 thousand tons of soybean oil (-10%) were imported in the EU territory.
The main suppliers of these products to Europe in 11 months were Ukraine, Argentina, Belarus, Great Britain, Indonesia and Malaysia.
In addition it should be noted that since the beginning of July last year, supplies of sunflower to EU jumped by about 170% – from 795.6 tons to almost 2.15 million tons. Rapeseed imports rose by 39% – to 7.14 million tons. Soybean imports decreased by 12% to 12 million tons.
