USDA experts expect an expansion of rapeseed acreage in the European Union in 2026. Attractive rapeseed prices in the fall of 2025 have encouraged farmers to expand their acreage.

In its recently published preliminary forecast, the USDA Foreign Agricultural Information Service (USDA FAS) estimated the rapeseed acreage in the EU in 2026 at 6.3 million hectares. This represents an increase of approximately 2.7% compared to the previous year.

Based on expected average yields, FAS forecasts the EU rapeseed harvest in 2026 at 20.4 million tonnes, slightly below the previous year’s 20.5 million tonnes.

France, Germany, Poland, and Romania together account for approximately three-quarters of all rapeseed production in the EU. The German Union for the Promotion of Oilseed and Grain Cultivation (UFOP) also expects an increase in the area under oilseed cultivation in all these countries.
