The world’s largest pork exporter, Danish Crown, on July 16, 2026, lowered its purchase price for pigs to the lowest level in over 20 years for the second time in a few weeks.

This was reported by the analytical department of the Meat Industry Association.

The purchase price was set at 7.1 Danish kroner per kilogram, which is half the price of last year.

“The company directly names the reason: structural overproduction of pork in the EU and depressed consumer demand, and management warns that worse is yet to come,” the association notes.

They add that the pressure on the European market is also being created by anti-dumping duties on pork from the EU (4.9–19.8%) imposed by China since December 2025 – the largest buyer has significantly reduced purchases in Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark, which have suffered the most.

“For Ukraine, this means that the surplus of cheap European pork is not going anywhere and will continue to put pressure on purchase prices and increase competition with domestic products,” experts explain.

The association predicts that purchase prices for live weight pigs in the period from July 27 to August 2, 2026 will be 70-71 UAH/kg, which is 4-5 UAH higher than last week.

On the German VEZG exchange, prices for half-carcasses of conditioned pigs for the current week are 1.40 euros/kg (71.49 UAH/kg), for half-carcasses of sows — 0.53 euros/kg (27.06 UAH/kg). Prices are indicated without VAT.

On the Polish CennikRolnicze exchange, the average price for live pigs is PLN 4.16/kg (UAH 49.05/kg). The price range for live pigs is PLN 3.50-4.80/kg (UAH 41.27-56.60/kg).
