England’s wheat crop up 4.9% despite lower yields
England’s wheat harvest this year is provisionally estimated at 10.6 million metric tons, up 4.9% from the previous season, Britain’s farming and environment ministry said on Thursday.
The rise was driven by an 8.8% increase in planted area to 1.5 million hectares. Average yield declined by 3.6% to 7.0 tons per hectare.
The ministry estimated the rapeseed crop in England at 722,000 tons, up 5.5% from last year, and barley production at 4.2 million tons, down 14%.
