Electric tractors begin competing for the agricultural market
Electric tractors are gradually moving from the category of experimental machinery to real competitors of diesel-powered machines: several European manufacturers have introduced new developments aimed at solving the main limitation of electric equipment — restricted operating range and long charging times.
This was reported by Farmers Journal.
One of the most notable projects is the MK1 electric tractor, being developed under the Volkswagen Gen.Farm project for small and medium-sized farms. The machine, with an output of around 40 hp, is equipped with a fast battery-swapping system designed to minimize downtime. The concept envisions centralized battery exchange stations that could be powered by solar energy.
The tractor is primarily targeted at regions with low levels of agricultural mechanization.
