Egypt plans to expand biodiesel production by recycling used cooking oil (UCO). A new processing facility will be built with investment from Qatar-based Al Mana Holding.

The plant will be located in the Tenth of Ramadan integrated waste management city and is designed to process up to 100 tonnes of waste oil per day, converting it into renewable fuel.

According to Egypt’s Ministry of Environment, the project aims to redirect significant volumes of used cooking oil from informal disposal channels into an organized recycling system for energy production.

Egypt consumes millions of tonnes of edible oil annually, creating strong potential for collecting waste oil for biofuel production. The project also includes the development of a nationwide collection network targeting households, restaurants and food manufacturers, as well as the launch of a mobile application to encourage safe disposal and improve feedstock traceability.
