Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) and Al Dahra Agriculture Trading have signed a five-year wheat supply agreement worth $500 mln. The agreement was signed on August 26 in El Alamein.

The agreement establishes a framework for supplying imported wheat to GASC under an existing financing program supported by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX). The deal moves the strategic partnership established between the parties in 2023 into the operational stage.

ADEX financing is expected to support stable long-term wheat supplies to Egypt while strengthening trade ties with the UAE. The specific volume of wheat to be supplied over the five-year period has not been disclosed.

The agreement comes amid Egypt’s heavy dependence on imported wheat. According to USDA forecasts, the country is expected to import around 12.5 mln tons of wheat in MY 2026/27, down 1.6% from the previous season. Domestic production is forecast at 9.8 mln tons.

Egypt’s total wheat consumption is projected at 20.3 mln tons in MY 2026/27. The long-term agreement with Al Dahra will provide one of the world’s largest wheat importers with a more predictable supply channel over the next five years.
