Egypt, India and Turkey propose options for safe Black Sea shipping – Zelenskyy
Egypt, India and Turkey have presented Ukraine with proposals aimed at ensuring safe navigation and food shipments through the Black Sea, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on September 23 during the International Crimea Platform summit in New York.
According to Zelenskyy, the proposals have already been submitted in writing. Ukraine is ready to support a mechanism that could improve maritime security and is now awaiting Russia’s position on possible arrangements.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine is prepared to fulfill its part of any agreement aimed at ensuring safe shipping and food security, provided Russia takes concrete steps toward de-escalation.
Turkey has already stepped up diplomatic contacts regarding the situation in the Black Sea. Ankara earlier presented Ukraine and Russia with a draft memorandum aimed at halting attacks on civilian vessels.
Ukraine has also discussed safe maritime exports with India, with both sides stressing the importance of protecting civilian shipping and maintaining uninterrupted food supplies by sea.
