The vessel ASOMATOS carrying 26.9 thsd tons of wheat stolen from Ukraine’s occupied territories has unloaded in Abu Qir, Egypt.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Facebook, this is already the fourth Russian-linked vessel since April to deliver Ukrainian grain to Egyptian ports.
“ASOMATOS was allowed to unload even though five days ago the Prosecutor General of Ukraine submitted an official request for legal assistance to Egypt’s Ministry of Justice regarding this незаконный cargo, exported by the sanctioned company Agro-Fregat via occupied Crimea, providing all necessary data and legal grounds to arrest both the vessel and its cargo,” said Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
He stressed that Ukraine has for many years been a reliable guarantor of Egypt’s food security, and it is unclear why Egyptian partners are “repaying” this by continuing to accept stolen Ukrainian grain.
“We call on our Egyptian partners to adhere to international law, their commitments made to us, and the principles of our bilateral relations. Stolen goods from occupied territories must be confiscated, not accepted. Looting is not trade—it is complicity that only fuels further aggression,” Andrii Sybiha concluded.
