EBA urges action to curb Russian grain exports through Baltic ports
The European Business Association (EBA) has called on the Ukrainian government to step up diplomatic engagement with the Baltic states and EU institutions to prevent further expansion of Russian agricultural exports through Baltic Sea ports.
According to the EBA, disruptions affecting Black Sea and Azov Sea ports could push Russian exporters to redirect more grain, oilseeds and processed agricultural products toward Baltic routes for onward shipment to global markets.
The Association also warned of risks related to relabelling, blending or concealing the origin of agricultural products, including goods that could potentially come from temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. The EBA said expanded alternative logistics for Russian exports could also intensify competition with Ukrainian suppliers on global markets.
At the same time, several Baltic countries are already considering tighter controls and restrictions on the transit of Russian agricultural products. Ukrainian businesses believe such initiatives should be supported and coordinated at the EU level.
The EBA stressed that Ukraine should seek to prevent the development of new logistics infrastructure that could allow Russian exporters to bypass restrictions and increase grain and oilseed shipments through the Baltic region.
