Dollar value of Jan-Sep vegetable oils export from Ukraine soars by 18% YoY
In January-September 2021, the dollar value of vegetable oils export from Ukraine totalled USD 4.674 bln, 18% higher YoY, says Bogdan Dukhnitsky, PhD in Economics, senior researcher of the Department of Economics of Agricultural Production and International Integration at the National Research Center Institute of Agrarian Economics.
Sunflowerseed oil is the key export commodity of this group. The value of shipments reached USD 4.3 bln, USD 0.6 bln above the previous year’s level.
India is traditionally the largest buyer of fats and oils produced in Ukraine. In the nine months of this year, its share in the structure of Ukrainian exports of this type of products made up 28.1%, the expert adds.
The largest importers of Ukrainian vegetable oils and fats in 9M 2021:
- India: 28.1% of the total shipment
- China: 14.1%
- Netherlands: 10.3%
- Spain: 6.9%
- Iraq: 5.8%
- Poland: 5.6%
The USDA in its November report projects sunflower oil production in Ukraine at 7.117 mln t in 2021/22.
As of 18 November, sunflower harvesting in Ukraine progressed to 15.78 mln t or 99% of the projected area. The crop yielded 2.45 t/ha on average.
