Croatia offers its ports for transportation of Ukrainian grain

As Russia has withdrawn from the grain deal and refuses to guarantee security for grain ships in the Black Sea, Croatia is offering its ports on the Adriatic coast to export Ukrainian grain. This was stated by Croatian Foreign Minister Frano Matusic at a meeting of the UN General Assembly during an open ministerial debate.

“Croatia is ready to help in finding new export routes for Ukrainian grain. Croatian railways and ports in the Adriatic Sea are one of the possible alternative routes,” he said.

Matusić also added that Russia’s decision not to extend the agreement provokes the threat of famine in many parts of the world.

In his speech, he emphasized that “Croatia has declared from the first days of the Russian invasion that it stands by Ukraine and its people.” He emphasized that “Croatia is ready to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.”

On July 17, the Russian dictator’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that the “grain deal” had been effectively suspended. On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the Black Sea Initiative would cease to function on July 18. Russia is withdrawing its guarantees of safety of navigation.

According to Peskov, Russia “will immediately return to the ‘grain deal’ as soon as the agreements related to it are fulfilled.”

It was also reported that on the morning of July 16, the last ship with Ukrainian grain under the grain deal left the port of Odesa.

For its part, China hopes that the Black Sea Grain Initiative to transport grain from Ukraine across the Black Sea will continue to be implemented in full.
