Côte d’Ivoire invests $46 mln to expand wheat processing

Côte d’Ivoire plans to implement a $46 mln project to expand its flour milling capacity. Local company Moulin Koira de Côte d’Ivoire is preparing the investment to increase grain processing for the domestic and regional markets.

According to USDA estimates, wheat consumption in the country could reach 806 thsd tons in MY 2026/27. Demand for wheat flour is rising amid urbanization and growth in the commercial bakery sector.

Côte d’Ivoire produces virtually no wheat commercially, leaving its milling industry fully dependent on imported grain. A significant share of wheat enters through the Port of Abidjan before being processed domestically.

The new project is expected to strengthen Côte d’Ivoire’s role as a regional wheat processing and trading hub. The country also exports flour to neighboring markets, with Burkina Faso accounting for more than 80% of its re-exported wheat products.

The expansion comes amid broader investment in the country’s milling industry. Côte d’Ivoire has also recently commissioned a flour mill with a capacity of 250 tons per day and grain storage facilities totaling 15 thsd tons.
