Corn sowing is nearing completion in France
French farmers have 4% of their planned corn area left to sow, according to the state agency FranceAgriMer. Eighty-eight percent of the crops are already at the germination stage, which is higher than the same date last year (82%) and the average over the past five years (77%).
The condition of grain crops is currently better than last year. The share of winter soft wheat in good and very good condition as of May 18 was 80% (71% a year ago), winter barley 76% (66%), and spring barley 85% (75%).
Wheat and barley crops are developing faster than the average over the past five years.
