Corn drying costs in Ukraine may reach one-third of grain value
Corn drying costs at Ukrainian grain elevators in 2026 remain close to last year’s levels, but low purchase prices are making post-harvest handling a significant financial burden for farmers. As of late October, drying tariffs ranged from UAH 135 to 165 per ton for each percentage point of moisture removed. Even at the lowest rate, drying corn from 25% moisture to the standard 14% would cost UAH 1,485/t, equivalent to around 32% of the grain’s purchase price of UAH 4,600/t.
High drying costs amid low corn prices are increasing the risk of working capital shortages for producers. Some farms are already considering paying for elevator services with grain, while others are reviewing their harvesting schedules. Under these conditions, some farmers may leave corn in the fields until spring 2027.
