“Grain and soybean futures are in the red across the board at the end of early trading. Wheat futures [are] weakest, under pressure from improved moisture conditions across the U.S. hard red winter wheat belt and beneficial overnight rains in the northern Plains spring wheat belt,” said The Brock Report this morning, speaking of the overnight session.
“Uncertainty about the status of U.S.-China trade talks has been a negative market factor, especially for soybean futures, with Beijing continuing to say that no talks have been scheduled. Expectations for this afternoon’s USDA Crop Progress report to indicate good corn and soybean planting progress have also weighed on futures.”
USDA is expected to release the Crop Progress report today at 3 p.m. CT. Al Kluis, managing director of Kluis Commodity Advisors, said he predicts the report will peg corn planting progress at over 30% complete and soybean planting progress at roughly 22% complete.
