Constanța Port expands grain terminal capacity to 180 thsd tons

Transport Trade Services SA (TTS), a Romanian freight forwarding services company, said a €23 million ($26.2 million) grain storage and handling expansion project of the Canopus Constanța terminal at the Port of Constanța has been completed, growing storage capacity to 180,000 tonnes.

Construction included six storage silos, each with a capacity of 11,000 tonnes; five buffer silos, each with a storage capacity of 825 tonnes; a new cargo receiving station for river barges; equipment for one of the two new truck unloading stations; conveying equipment (belt conveyors and bucket elevators) required to handle cargo flows and connect the new facilities to the existing terminal; and three weighing stations on the vessel loading line.

The new terminal will receive cargo from barges and trucks through two unloading stations, each with a handling capacity of 400 tonnes per hour, TTS said. Cargo will be loaded onto seagoing vessels using the two existing ship loaders, each providing a loading rate of 800 tph.

Project construction began on Jan. 20, 2025, and completion of the work was announced by TTS in a July 20 filing with the Bucharest Stock Exchange investor disclosure system.

Canopus Star SRL Constanța, one of the three port operators of the TTS Group in the Port of Constanța, is a joint venture owned by TTS and Cargill Agricultura SRL, the Romanian operating subsidiary of US-based Cargill that specializes in the handling of agricultural commodities.

TTS, headquartered in Bucharest, Romania, is the parent company of TTS Group, a provider of integrated logistics services with port terminals in Constanta and seven Danube River ports.

The Port of Constanța, situated on Romania’s Black Sea coast, is an important agricultural export gateway for Europe. It serves as the primary maritime outlet for grain and oilseeds produced not only in Romania, but also in several landlocked countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
