Condition of grain crops in France has worsened, but remains better than last year
The condition of grain crops in France worsened last week, but remains significantly better than last year. Grain crops are developing much faster than usual, according to the Zerno On-Line news agency, citing the state agency FranceAgriMer.
The share of winter soft wheat crops in good and very good condition as of May 4 was 80% (81% the week before and 74% on the same date last year). The share of durum wheat crops in good and very good condition was 71% (72% and 76%), winter barley – 76% (77% and 69%), and spring barley – 85% (88% and 81%).
Thirty-six percent (14% and 12%) of winter soft wheat crops, 93% (81% and 56%) of winter barley crops, and 20% (8% and 5%) of spring barley crops are in the heading stage.
Corn sowing is currently ongoing across the country. By May 4, 86% (77% and 74%) of the planned corn area had been sown.
