Conclusions of the EU summit: leaders of the bloc condemn Russian attacks on commercial vessels

According to the conclusions of the European Council meeting, EU leaders condemned Russian shelling of Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure, as well as attacks on commercial vessels.

The European Council stated that it “supports all efforts, both public and private, to urgently improve Ukraine’s energy security before winter and to meet the immediate humanitarian and civilian needs of the Ukrainian population, while making Ukraine’s energy system more resilient in the long term.”

The EU also responded to the nuclear safety situation in our country and welcomed the IAEA’s efforts to monitor the situation and assist in maintaining nuclear safety.

“In this context, it (the European Council – Ed.) calls for further integration of Ukraine’s energy system with the EU energy network and for concrete actions in this regard. The European Council recognizes the important role played by the Member States in the neighboring region,” the conclusions read.

The EU also responded to Russian shelling of port infrastructure and attacks on commercial vessels.

“The European Council opposes the use of food as a weapon that undermines global food security, affecting vulnerable people and regions that need it most,” the conclusions say.

Regarding military support for Ukraine, the European Council noted that assistance will be provided subject to full compliance with the security and defense policies of certain member states, and will take into account the security and defense interests of all EU member states.
