COCERAL lowers estimates of rapeseed harvest in the EU and the UK
This year’s production of rapeseed in the EU and the UK may reach about 20.2 million tons. This forecast is contained in the March report of COCERAL association. Three months earlier, experts expected the oilseed harvest to be higher (20.3 mln tons), although the new result is also significantly lower than last year’s results (21.3 mln tons).
The materials of the industry association indicate that the gross grain harvest in these regions will amount to 295.5 mln tonnes, compared to 296.5 mln tonnes in December and 292.4 mln tonnes in 2023.
In particular, wheat harvest (excluding durum wheat) is expected to reach 134.1 mln tonnes (139.4 mln tonnes in December; 140 mln tonnes in 2023).
“The record rainfall at the end of last year affected the sowing of winter grains (wheat/winter barley) in Northwest Europe (France, Germany, the UK, the Baltic States, Poland), while production in Spain will increase significantly compared to last year,” COCERAL said.
Barley production in the EU and the UK is forecasted at 61.2 mln tonnes (58.6 mln tonnes, 55.7 mln tonnes), corn production – 64.3 mln tonnes (63.7 mln tonnes, 62.5 mln tonnes).
