China’s imports of key agricultural crops fell by 40.8% in January-March

In January-March, China reduced its purchases of major agricultural crops abroad — grains, legumes, and root crops — by 40.8% year-on-year to 22.7 million tons. This was reported by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China.
According to published data, in the first quarter, China imported relevant products worth $9.7 billion — 41.2% less than in the same period in 2024. In March alone, the physical volume of goods in this category imported from other countries amounted to 5.34 million tons, down 30% from February.
According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, China increased its imports of major agricultural crops by 11.7% in 2023. In 2024, their supplies from abroad decreased by 2.3% to 157.52 million tons.
