In June 2025, China imported only $765,600 worth of grain from the United States, the lowest level since the summer of 2019. This is the lowest level in six years, with a similar import level of $653,400 last recorded in June 2019.

Sorghum accounted for the bulk of the imports, while corn accounted for $71,000. Compared to May 2025, US grain supplies to China fell fourfold, and compared to June 2024, when China spent $369.5 million on US grain, the drop was almost 500 times.

Due to such a sharp decline in import volumes, the US was only in 15th place among the largest grain exporters to China. The leaders in grain supplies in June were Australia (46% of the total), Canada (25%) and Myanmar (7%), which significantly outpaced American suppliers.

Overall, China’s grain imports in June 2025 decreased by half compared to the same period last year, reaching $547.4 million. This indicates a general trend towards a decrease in grain purchases in foreign markets, which may be due to economic or logistical factors.
