China raises tariffs on US goods to 125% and calls on the EU to unite against Trump

In response to US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, Beijing will increase tariffs on all US goods from 84% to 125% on April 12. This has raised the stakes in a trade war that threatens to disrupt global supply chains. This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of China, Reuters reports.
It is noted that China took such a step after Trump once again raised US duties on Chinese goods, which reached 145%.
“The imposition of abnormally high tariffs on China by the United States seriously violates international and economic trade rules, basic economic laws and common sense, and is absolutely unilateral intimidation and coercion,” the Chinese Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
Beijing added that it would ignore further increases in tariffs on Chinese goods by the United States.
“Given that there is no longer any possibility of market acceptance of American goods exported to China at current tariff levels, if the US side subsequently continues to impose duties on Chinese goods exported to the US, the Chinese side will not pay any attention to this,” the Chinese Ministry of Finance emphasized.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping has called on the European Union to join forces against US President Donald Trump’s tariff policy, the AFP news agency reports, citing Chinese state media.
He noted that this is necessary not only to protect its own legitimate rights and interests, but also to protect international justice and fairness, as well as international rules and order.
Since April 10, US tariffs on Chinese goods have been 145%, the last time Trump increased them on April 9 to 125% and introduced a 90-day pause for reciprocal and 10% tariffs.
On April 9, Beijing announced the introduction of additional tariffs on American goods, raising the overall level of tariffs to 84%.
