Cargill has appointed Armando Giordano as its new head of global trading, according to sources familiar with the matter. The leadership change at the world’s largest agricultural commodities trader has not yet been officially announced.

Based in Geneva, Giordano will replace Alex Sanfeliu, who recently departed the company. Giordano has worked at Cargill for more than 15 years and most recently led the company’s corn and ethanol trading operations.

Cargill is the world’s largest agricultural commodities firm and the biggest privately held company in the United States by revenue. In addition to agriculture, the company is active in energy, metals, and biofuels markets.

Over the past year, Cargill has been undergoing a major restructuring program. In late 2024, the company announced plans to reduce its business units from five to three and cut approximately 8,000 jobs as part of a broader cost-efficiency strategy.

Former global trading head Alex Sanfeliu has reportedly joined Balyasny Asset Management, where he is expected to help expand the firm’s agricultural commodities trading business.
