Canada’s grain exports down 11%
From August 2023 to March 2024, 29.3 million tons of cereals, legumes and oilseeds
crops, down 11% from the same period last season. This is reported by Zerno On-Line agency with reference to the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC).
Exports of soft wheat for nine months of the current season amounted to 14.3 million tons (13.5 million tons for the same period last season), durum wheat – 1.3 (3.6) million tons, barley – 1.4 (2.2) million tons, canola – 4.1 (6.0) million tons, soybeans – 3.2 (3.0) million tons, peas – 1.7 (1.4) million tons.
The main buyers of Canadian soft wheat, as in the previous season, were China, Indonesia, Japan and Bangladesh. Durum wheat is purchased mainly by Italy – 1.1 (0.3) million tons, Algeria – 0.7 (0.7) million tons and Morocco – 0.6 (0.5) million tons.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that the export potential for Canadian wheat this season has been reduced to 24.0 (26.6) million tons due to a reduced crop to 32.0 (34.3) million tons.
China remains the largest buyer of Canadian canola, soybeans and peas this season.
