Canada is new star supplier of fertilizers to Brazil
Canada was Brazil’s salvation in the supply of fertilizers this year. The country increased by 71% the volume exported to Brazilians from January to June compared to the same period last year.
Total Brazilian imports of fertilizers totaled 19.4 million tonnes in the first six months of this year, a volume 17% higher than in the same period last year.
Spending, however, increased by 178% in the period due to high international prices. As a result, the cost was US$ 12.8 billion in the period.
In 2021, Brazil imported 41.2 million tonnes worth US$ 15.2 billion.

Concern toward the supply of fertilizers made players in this industry anticipate purchases. In June, as had occurred in May, the volume of imports exceeded 4 million tonnes.
In addition to Russia and Canada, Morocco, China, and the United States were on the list of leading suppliers of fertilizers to Brazil, according to data from Secex (Secretariat of Foreign Trade).
