Bulgaria: PP-DB, GERB and MRF propose lifting ban on grain imports from Ukraine
A draft decision prepared by PP- DB, GERB and MRF envisages that after September 15, 2023, Bulgaria should not support the continuation of the emergency measure banning imports of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine into Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. The economic committee in the parliament has accepted the decision but a vote must take place in the plenary hall.
The National Association of Grain Producers expressed indignation at the filed decision and pointed out that “lifting the ban on imports from Ukraine is the fastest and surest way toward destroying native agriculture”.
The measure was adopted after protests by farmers against the import of grain from Ukraine. On September 15, the European Commission must lift the moratorium. Hungary, Romania and Poland have already announced they would continue the ban.
