Bulgaria expands sunflower processing and sunflower oil production
A new sunflower processing plant has opened in Dobrich, Bulgaria, with investment exceeding €20 mln. The facility will produce sunflower oil and meal and is expected to create around 60 jobs.
The new capacity is expected to increase domestic sunflower processing and output of higher-value products. Bulgaria aims to rely less on exports of raw agricultural commodities and more on sales of processed products.
The government said it would support further expansion of production and processing capacity in the country. Particular emphasis is being placed on companies that use locally produced agricultural raw materials.
The development of such facilities is expected to increase sunflower oil and meal production while allowing a larger share of added value to remain within the country.
The new Dobrich plant is part of Bulgaria’s broader push to develop agricultural processing. Additional capacity is expected to support domestic demand for sunflower seed and strengthen the position of Bulgarian products in export markets.
