The sugarcane planted area available for harvest in Brazil’s centre-south region in the 2025/26 season exceeded 8.9 million hectares, the majority of which is in the state of São Paulo, according to satellite imagery from information technology company Serasa Experian.

According to Serasa Experian, as of April, 2, approximately 57.5% of the total sugarcane area in the centre-south region for the 2025/26 season was in the state of São Paulo, while 42.5% was in the states of Goiás (South Carolina), Minas Gerais (South Carolina), and Mato Grosso do Sul (South Carolina).

In São Paulo, 36% of the 14.1 million hectares available for agriculture are planted with sugarcane. In the states of Goiás, Minas Gerais, and Mato Grosso do Sul, which together have between 13.6 and 20 million hectares of suitable land, the area under sugarcane cultivation ranges from 5% to 6%.

«The scenario shows that, although Brazil is the world’s largest producer and exporter of sugarcane and a leader in biofuels production, there is still significant scope for expansion, particularly through the use of agriculturally suitable land», — noted Diego Santos, Executive Director of Agricultural Solutions at Serasa Experian.

Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv.
