Brazilian poultry moves closer to returning to the EU market

A European Commission audit found that Brazil’s system for controlling the use of antimicrobials in poultry production complies with EU requirements. This removes one of the key regulatory barriers to a possible resumption of shipments.

The return of Brazilian poultry could intensify competition in the European market, particularly in price-sensitive segments and in raw material used by processors and the HoReCa sector.

This is especially important for Polish producers, as Poland is one of the EU’s largest poultry producers and exporters. Increased supply from Brazil could limit price growth and put pressure on producer margins.

However, a positive audit does not automatically mean that imports will resume. Further developments will depend on decisions by EU institutions, quota volumes, trade conditions and the range of products allowed onto the market.

If Brazilian shipments return in significant volumes, competitive pressure could increase not only within the EU but also in export markets where European producers already compete with Brazilian poultry.
